November 5, 2002 |
General Statement:
As a result of the increased
capabilities available for electronic types of communication, the North Iowa
Touring Club (NITC) has acquired a website to communicate with its members
specifically and generally with the public.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is
to set forth the rules and regulations that shall govern the use of the
Club’s website.
The site is intended to
supply information, with pleasant but not fancy graphical design. It is anticipated that the content will
change relatively slowly. There should
be no distracting, attention-getting devices such as moving images, frames,
unexpected sounds, unusual colors, large fonts, popup screens or advanced
media. The pages should be
designed to be pleasing when rendered by the popular browsers on the popular
platforms using default settings.
The website will be divided
into the following sections:
1.
Event Calendar
2.
Membership Form
3.
About Us
4.
Message Board
5.
Special Event Area
6.
Guestbook
7.
Links
8.
News
9. And
such other sections as the Board shall direct from time to time.
Specific Provisions:
I
The Membership Form, Message Board
and Guestbook provide a forum for members and the general public to contact the
Club, interact with each other and promote improved communication among the
membership. These sections are
available to all NITC members and the public alike for such use and such
postings as each individual believes appropriate. However, the Club reserves the right to remove any posting
believed to be inappropriate or not of general interest to the club membership. Postings will be removed from time to
time by the President of the Club or his/her designee.
All opinions expressed in the
Message Board and Guestbook will be those of the individual poster and will not
necessarily represent the official position of the North Iowa Touring
Club.
II
Postings to the sections
entitled “Event Calendar,” “About Us,” Special Event
Area,” “Links,” and “News” can only be made
through the following procedures:
a. Event Calendar
Club events are scheduled at
the bi-monthly meetings of the Board of Directors. Such events are identified as official NITC events and will
automatically be posted to the website.
Other events subsequently called by NITC members may be identified as
official NITC events and posted to the website if the event is of a nature
similar to those scheduled during the board meetings and approved by the
President of the Club or his/her designee.
Events sponsored by other
organizations, individuals, and those scheduled by NITC members not of a nature
similar to those scheduled during the board meetings, may appear in the Event
Calendar, but shall specifically be identified as “Other” events
and shall not be classified as official NITC events. Nevertheless, all events must be of a general interest to
NITC members. No Event shall be
posted unless approved by the President of the Club or his/her designee. Any events deemed to be threatening or
obscene, the promotion of an illegal activity or postings that present content
that may be threatening are prohibited.
Postings may be removed at
the discretion of the President or his/her designee.
b. About Us
This section of the website
shall be designed by the Web Master in conjunction with the President or
his/her designee and shall accurately describe the purpose and the activities
of the Club.
c. Special Events Area
Special Events include those
events recognized and/or sponsored by NITC. These events may be classified as official NITC events or
unofficial events. However, certain
events, although not an official NITC event, may have an official component
sponsored by NITC (e.g., RAGBRAI).
Examples of official Special
Events include the Great Parks North and Ocean to Ocean rides.
No item shall be included in the Special Events Area unless of general interest to NITC members and approved by the Board of Directors, the President of the Club or his/her designee.
Postings may be removed at
the discretion of the President or his/her designee.
d. Links
Links will be provided to
those websites thought by the President of the Club or his/her designee to be
of general interest to club members.
NITC will not be responsible for the content, security or privacy
practices of those sites.
Members having knowledge of
links to other clubs or any site that may be of general interest to NITC
membership should forward them to the President or his/her designee for
consideration.
Postings may be removed at
the discretion of the President or his/her designee.
e. News
All news items must be of
general interest to club members and approved by the President of the Club or his/her
designee.
Postings may be removed at
the discretion of the President or his/her designee.
Miscellaneous
The Club website is accessible to members and non-members alike. Therefore, great sensitivity to the feelings and privacy of other people participating in any Club activity is required when posting a report of that activity to the Club website. If names are required at all, only the first name should be used. It should be understood that what may seem amusing or a minor mishap to witnesses may be embarrassing to those directly involved. It there is any doubt, the person(s) involved in the activity referenced in the report should be contacted directly to give comment on the proposed report’s content. If a participant in the event is not happy with what is written, the content should be changed or the report withdrawn.
By posting information onto
the NITC site, the poster will grant NITC the non-exclusive right and license
to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print and use such information.
The posting of any
defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, illegal statement,
information or material is hereby prohibited. NITC does not condone and will not be responsible for any
such statements, information or material resulting in liability.
Appointed NITC officers will
monitor the website from time to time.
NITC reserves the right to remove sensitive content and to discard
messages that do not conform to these policies and procedures, as well as the
purposes stated herein. NITC also
reserves the right to terminate access to any participant who does not abide by
these policies and procedures.
Periodically, NITC should
archive existing messages and delete such messages that have lost
relevance. Determination of
relevance may be subjective and will be exercised at the sole discretion of the
President or his/her designee.
Commercial postings are
deemed inappropriate and are subject to removal unless previously approved by
the Board of Directors, the President of the Club or his/her designee.
System Failure
NITC cannot be held liable for system downtime, crashes, or data loss. NITC cannot be liable for any claim or loss based on errors, omissions or inaccuracies appearing on the site. Finally, NITC cannot be held liable for any predicted estimate of profits in which the sponsors of a posted event would have gained if the site were functioning properly.
